Long Beach Lights

The Promenade, Long Beach, CA
2026

Long Beach Lights is a public artwork of four solar-powered sculptural lights that animate The Promenade in Downtown Long Beach. Located along the well-traversed pedestrian corridor adjacent to Promenade Square, the installation reimagines civic lighting as a playful intervention that brings identity and character to the streetscape.

Viewed from below, the sculptures read “Long Beach” in cursive, creating visual markers that invite people to gather and orient themselves within the neighborhood. Fully transportable, Long Beach Lights will be relocated to activate different neighborhoods, including the East Village Arts District and the Mosaic Promenade, reinforcing a shared civic identity across the city.

The artwork was commissioned by the Downtown Long Beach Alliance and the Long Beach Difference.

Long Beach Lights was designed in collaboration with James Shen of People’s Architecture Office.
